Da vi dro

'When we left'. What happens when we have to leave everything we know? Da vi dro is a gripping and genre-crossing concert performance about fear, identity and hope.

The performance takes the audience on a journey through stories of emigration, escape and new beginnings. Based on the Norwegian history of emigration and today's migration stories, a strong and current experience is created that touches on themes such as the fear of the unknown, identity and encounters between cultures and perspectives.

The performance combines Hardanger fiddle, mouth harp, oud and kanun, and where folk music is mixed with more modern expressions such as rap, scratch and slam poetry. The musical expression is supported by historical images, stories and poetic texts.

Kenneth Lien is a Norwegian folk musician from Lillehammer educated at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Many became aware of his unique musical talents through the NRK series "Trollstemt", broadcast in 2023. He is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, instrument maker and painter with an interest in original expression.

Jonas Bjerketvedt has worked with a variety of forms of art and music for more than 30 years, as a musician, composer and sound designer. Bjerketvedt has worked with and developed a number of productions within the genres of film, TV drama, documentary, theatre, dance, music and art installations. Bjerketvedt is previously known as a DJ and producer in the band "Pen jakke" from 1996 to 2002.

Per Olav "Skranglebein" Mydske is educated in traditional music at the Ole Bull Academy and has, since his time in the renowned hip-hop group "Pen jakke" from 1996 to 2002, moved between a number of different genres and expressions. By mixing the hip-hop genre with folk music, jazz, blues and folk singing, Mydske's rap expression has created unique live performances around the country.

Saleh Mahfoud is a musician, singer and composer who has played a crucial role in strengthening Arabic music on the Norwegian music scene in recent years. Originally from Syria, Saleh sings and plays several instruments, including kanun, guitar and oud. Mahfoud has been a cultural consultant on several projects within academic and artistic institutions in Norway.
